While Donald Trump is everywhere, spreading himself with self-satisfaction, Melania is discreet to the point of being invisible. More silent than a fish, she shrouds herself in mystery, revealing as little as possible about herself.
Could her signature tell us more about her personality? Let’s find out.
Signing together
On May 19, 2025, Donald Trump signed into law the Take It Down Act, a measure that imposes penalties for online sexual exploitation that First Lady Melania Trump helped usher through Congress, and he asked her to sign it too.
We are used to seeing Donald’s monstrous signature, which he seems so proud to exhibit as often as possible, but Melania’s signature has been much less exposed to the public eye, just as herself, in fact. This gives us the opportunity to examine and compare their signatures.
I have already written about Donald’s signature, so I will focus on Melania’s and what it can tell us about her.
Like a logo, our signature shows the world what we want to be
As a reminder, I would like to point out that whenever possible, we should study handwriting and signature together, as they complement and validate each other, and only reach their full meaning together.
Our signature sheds light on our social personality and ambitions, while our handwriting reveals who we truly are on a more intimate level.
However, the signature and handwriting should be coherent, meaning they should not differ significantly in size, shape, direction, or other characteristics. The differences between the two mean there is a discrepancy between what we truly are and how we present ourselves to the outside world.
Unfortunately, I have not seen Melania’s handwriting, so let’s bear in mind that her signature indicates only a part of who she is, the part that she wants the world to see.
An impenetrable stronghold
What is striking about Melania Trump’s signature is this monotonous, lifeless, vertical black row of narrow spikes.
Nothing stands out, her name and first name are illegible and almost identical. It feels suffocating just to look at it. It is so dense and tight that no air or curve can find its way among these sharp angles and straight lines. Nothing belonging to the realm of imagination, spontaneity, feelings, and emotions is allowed here. It looks as tense, closed, and rigid as a high metal fence, protecting a well-enclosed fortress. Can she even still breathe behind this elaborate, double-locked defense wall?
On a graphological level, this indicates a lot of self-control and strong willpower from someone determined not to reveal anything personal to the world. Feelings and emotions are swept under the rug, either completely repressed or maybe kept alive in some very private or unconscious part of her self. Nothing personal is shared.
She seems frozen in an austere, dignified role that leaves no room for the expression of emotions, weaknesses, or even hesitations. Reason and strength are the only rulers of her behavior. There is no room for doubt or listening, no benevolence, no indulgence, no welcoming generosity. Only defiance, stubbornness, and the assertion of pride and dignity can be found there.
Others and the outside world are seen as threats that she must defend herself against and keep at a distance, as far as possible. Standing straight, whatever happens, with a stiff upper lip, seems to be her guiding principle.
We may assume that this is not her actual signature, but rather a designed logo created to represent her as First Lady. In this role, she presents an expressionless, unsmiling, and rigid demeanor, clearly indicating that she prefers to distance herself from the public and prioritize her own interests above all else, as nothing else seems to matter to her.
Perfecting her bulletproof shell
As we can see above, her signature has become more rigid, defensive and fenced-in over the years, with increased control and the removal of the few curves and loops found in her earlier signatures, much like pruning a bush to make it look perfectly square and symmetrical by cutting off any superfluous bud or outgrowth. More tension and austerity appear over time until her signature looks perfectly geometrical and deprived of any human liveliness. Everything is thought out and prepared, as everything must be under control.
This pressure to appear “perfect” and in control can be exhausting, as it may consume all the energy resources needed to maintain this stoic mask. Putting oneself under such pressure is certainly uncomfortable and may even be painful and damaging in many ways. Loneliness and a feeling of inner emptiness may be the price to pay for holding together this sad, flawless façade.
Two of a kind, comparing the husband's and wife’s signatures:
The way she traced her signature right under her husband’s makes it look like she’s putting herself under his protection, hiding herself under his giant protective shield. Behind his impenetrable defensive wall stands hers, more discreet comparatively, like the Great Wall of China protecting another, smaller but thicker layer of fortification.
But what is even more fascinating about these two signatures is how closely they resemble each other, though tending to become more alike over time is not uncommon for a couple’s signatures.
Aside from being smaller, Melania’s signature looks like Donald’s, just more compacted and narrowed, as if Donald’s signature had been pushed from both ends to reduce its length like an accordion’s bellows being compressed after expanding. Although, if compared to a musical instrument, it would only produce a fierce, inharmonious sound, something like a harsh military march, maybe.
Anyway, these two seem to have a lot in common.
But the question remains as to what lies behind Melania’s well-protecting shield. And this is the question she doesn’t want us to be able to answer. We may only hypothesize. Is a fragile violet hiding behind this impassable barrier, or a dehumanized robot? Does she know it herself?
What seems certain, though, is that this wall won’t fall soon, especially since it has been consolidating its sturdiness over the years and is probably now stronger than her husband’s border wall.
The mystery remains, and we may never know what lies behind the perfectly enclosed walls of Melania’s invincible fortress.

A fascinating article and interesting take on an enigmatic personality. The signatures side by side certainly say a lot.
